One of the characteristics that most consumers of phones like computers worry about is storage. The capacity they bring is usually sufficient according to the user’s use of the machine, although it is never too old to have a backup..
Types of devices
- The most basic distinction when buying a best hard disk is its location. You can choose between an external or internal to a team. The first one is more versatile when it comes to taking it anywhere and reproducing the content saved in a computer, while the second remains anchored to a single device but provides greater speed.
- Once the location is decided, Review Station we will mention the two classes that exist: HDD and SSD. The first are the classics, with mechanical parts that generate noise when they are working, while the latter are more modern, do not make noise and copy faster.
- These are its main characteristics, but what really differentiates both is the utility that you give them. For example, if you only need a place to store files, you need an HDD that is more spacious and cheaper (they are also the most suitable for external storage, especially if they have a USB 3.0 cable). On the contrary, if what you need is a unit from which to run programs quickly and regardless of the space or the price, the hard drive that you should buy is an SSD. In addition, the latter last longer.
The choice in this regard when buying a hard drive is simple. HDDs are divided into 2.5 and 3.5 inches depending on whether it is for a laptop or a desktop computer respectively. They have spaces (2 TB in laptops and 4TB in desktop) and different connectors.
Characteristics and performance
When buying your new hard drive, next to what we have indicated in the previous paragraphs, you must take into account the specifications of each one. The first one is space. In the case of the HDD you can choose up to four terabytes, while in the SSD you can find one of up to one terabyte if your portfolio allows it, although the average is generally 512 GB.
On the other hand, there is the transfer speed where the decision is also very simple: the more revolutions per minute, the better, being 7,200 RPM. The cache is important for storing temporary files and you can choose between eight megabytes and 128 megabytes maximum. The last factor, but no less important, is the time it takes to fail. As we have said before, an SSD has much more life than an HDD but you should bear in mind that the less you use it, the less you suffer, which is why you can compensate for the second one.
